ADMINISTRATION SETUP
At the time of the 1998 Census, there were 7division and 24 districts as compared to 4 divisions and 12 districts in the 1981 Census. The districts are divided into sub-divisions. Mostly one sub-division comprises one Tehsil. There are 7.336 mauzas/villages in NWFP (3,672 mauzas are settled, while 3,664 are unsettled villages). EachTehsil is divided into Qanungo Halqas, Qanungo Halqa into Patwar Circles and Patwar Circless into Mauzas (revenue estate). A Muaza is the basic administrative unit comprising defined revenue estate in the revenue record.
Whole province is divided into district, district to sub-division and tehsils. Tehsils to Qanungo Halqas to Patwar Circles to Mauzas/villages. Some charges in district boundaries are taken place between the two censuses which are shown in the table 1.3.
